Coordinator

Boskenwyn Primary School is a small, village school near Helston in Cornwall. We have 85 pupils from age 4 to 11 years old. We have a unique, inquiry based learning approach to the National Curriculum for England which includes forest school, phenomena based learning, growth mindset and mixed age learning. We are a local authority maintained school and federated with Germoe Primary school in Gweek, Helston, Cornwall. We have a shared headteacher, 2 deputy headteachers, 1 full time special needs teacher and 6 classteachers, each class has at least one general learning support assistant and other learning mentors for individual children with specific needs, we also have a nurture group. Our percentage of children with special educational needs is 53% which is way above the national average. We have children from a variety of backgrounds and experiences; travellers, children in care, immigrants, forces children. The percentage of children from low income backgrounds receiving pupil premium funding is also above national average. We are interested in this project both because we feel we can add a lot to the group from our previous projects in Denmark, Norway and Finland and also because we feel we could learn so much from our new partners. Technology involving STEM is forefront in educating our children to become 21st century global citizens and it is vital for them to gain skills in problem solving, critical thinking, independence and interdependence so they can be prepared for their future in jobs and careers which may not have been invented yet. The staff are keen and enthusiastic and willing to learn new pedagogy and learning approaches to enable them to improve their practice. The headteacher will lead the project and the 2 deputy headteachers will be involved at every stage and will continue to lead the project if the headteacher leaves. Our maths and science teachers attend regular updates with the Cornwall Maths and Science hubs and the headteacher is a director of the Cornwall Association for Primary Headteachers. We have a good reputation in the learning community for our unique approach to the curriculum.
